Please postpone your retirement until January 21, 2009. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE for the love of your country and all things you hold dear, withdraw your decision to retire and stay on the SCOTUS until Shrub is gone and we no longer have to worry about Alito being nominated & confirmed to the SCOTUS.
Alito defended government wiretap rights
Alito argued against Roe v. Wade
I got bad news for you, pal. Alito, I think, is going to SAIL through his hearings. If the Roberts hearings taught us nothing, they taught us that ideology is no bellweather when it comes to confirmation. Alito has QUALIFICATIONS for the post up the wazoo. Whether or not we agree with his prior rulings (Hello, NOT) is going to be irrelevant. He's going to play this JUST like Roberts, saying "My personal opinion is not relevant. I am just interpreting and adminstering the law."
ReplyDeletePoor Sandra Day. She just wants to go home. She's already announced her desire to step down, she's just waiting for us to name the replacement.
I know... I know [kicking the dirt beneath my feet]
ReplyDeleteA guy can hope... and plead... and beg... can't he?
I do have to say that if the Dems let him just fly through, they ought to be afraid of the 2006 mid-terms, themselves.
I say we oust the whole lot of 'em in 2006, 2008, and 2010.
It's time for a fresh Congress that isn't beholden to corporate special interests and for a Democratic party in power that has a backbone.
And let Frist do away with the judicial filibuster.
Shrub and his minions aren't always going to be in power. What goes around comes around...
Happy Holidays!
